If you are looking for some adventure, there are plenty of drives for bikes and cars to check out a little bit of everything the New England has to offer.

Nightlife

If you feel like getting out to explore the nightlife, make sure you check out the Armidale Live facebook page for live music, theatre, spectator sports (crab racing, fight nights, table tennis, greyhounds and horses), and pub games.

If in doubt, you’ll always find something going on at The Red Grapevine, the guys down at Welder’s Dog will be more than happy to pour you a craft beer and tell you about their latest whiskey or gin find, and if you feel like a dance, check out The New England Hotel. Our favourite family pubs in town are The Armidale City Bowling Club and The Whitebull. If you are in need of some afternoon sun and a coldie, head to the Wicklow for a Sunday session with live music in the afternoon.

We also have an Ex-Services Club who always have fun events on, and will pick you up in the Bus on Thurs, Fri and Saturday nights.

National Parks and Gorges in the New England Region

Armidale is surrounded by some of the most spectacular gorges and waterfalls. You can drive to see them on a self guided tour, or for the best seat in town, check out Fleet Helicopters gorge tours or Riding the Highs Motorcycle tours. For the more adventurous you can take a joyride warplane for some acrobatics instead.

Wineries and Breweries near Armidale, NSW

The New England region is perfect for a day of driving through the countryside and checking out our many wineries and the New England Brewery. Our favourites are Whyworry Wines, Thunder Ridge Wines, Merilba Estate Wines, and Petersons Wines. Mountain Bike Riding in Armidale, NSW

Armidale has some of the best tracks in Australia, with self guided information available at New England Mountain Bike Club, or expert advice from New England Bike Tours. Our favourite tracks are at the Piney and Fat Tire Farm.

Bird Watching around Armidale

Armidale is home to many beautiful species of birds and therefore attracts bird watchers from all over the country. Sigrid Mitchell is Armidale Tourist Park’s resident twitcher and photographer and if you can catch her she will answer all your questions.

Our favourite Bird Watching places are Dangar’s Lagoon Uralla, Gara Gorge, Dangar’s Gorge and check out the lovely Milani Trout Cottages for day trips for bird watching and fishing.

Heritage in the New England Region

With history dating back to the 1880’s, Armidale is known for it’s beautiful heritage buildings, homesteads and churches.

To see all the inner city sights, you can jump on the free heritage tour run by the Armidale Information centre (bookings recommended). The Armidale Information centre will also give you a self guided walking and driving tour if you’d like to do it by yourself. There are several sites out of town, and you will need a car to get to these. Our favourite are Saumarez Homestead, Gostwyck Chapel and the Woolshed

Restaurants in Armidale

Armidale is bound with yummy restaurants with many restaurateurs using local produce with local wines and beers. If you want to impress, head to the Red Grapevine and the Powerhouse Tapas Bar, or Harvest (and choose their ‘feed me’ menu). Our favourite pubs are The Wicklow, the White Bull (has a restaurant and a pub), The Grand and St Kilda (for awesome cheap pub meals). The Armidale City Bowling Club has been refurbished, looks great, the staff are awesome and if you are staying at Armidale Tourist Park they’ll even give you a free drink (Conditions apply).

Pets in Armidale

Most café’s are pet friendly in Armidale, so you can walk your dog through the parklands and sip coffee on the way. Check out our Pet Friendly Armidale page for links to the best walks and babysitting as well.
